OpenAI dots are always-on AI agents inside ChatGPT. Each dot has its own cloud computer and browser, connects to your apps, and keeps working on tasks between conversations. OpenAI launched them on September 29, 2026. They run on GPT-6 Astra and are available to Pro and Business Premium users.

What a dot does

A dot is an assistant that keeps working when you're not talking to it. You give it a goal, connect the apps it may use, and it works through the steps and brings results back for your review. It asks you when a decision needs your judgment.

OpenAI describes three things that set it apart from a normal chat:

  • Its own computer. Each dot has a cloud computer and browser. You can open it at any time to see what your dot did.
  • Your apps. Dots connect to more than 4,000 apps through ChatGPT's plugin system.
  • Memory. A dot remembers context and learns your preferences over time.

Where you talk to it

You can message or call your dot in ChatGPT on desktop, web and mobile. You can also message it in Slack and Teams. Texting is coming: a limited beta exists for Pro users in the US.

Who can use it

Right now, ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users. OpenAI hasn't published a full country list, and its release notes say Pro access excludes the UK, the EU (EEA) and Switzerland at launch. Enterprise workspaces can try a beta when an admin turns it on. Free, Go and Plus plans don't include it.

What it isn't

Dots is not a new model you can call from code, and it isn't a separate app. It lives inside ChatGPT. It also isn't fully hands-off: certain sensitive tasks, such as changing a password, always stay with you, and OpenAI says dots can still make mistakes.
