Short answer

To get OpenAI dots, you need ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium. Open the ChatGPT desktop app or ChatGPT on desktop web, follow the prompts to create your dot, give it a name, and connect your apps. After setup, you can talk to it in the ChatGPT mobile app.

What you need first

A ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium plan, or an Enterprise workspace where your admin has turned on the beta.
An account in a country where dots is available.
The ChatGPT desktop app or a desktop browser.

Step 1: Create your dot on desktop

Open the ChatGPT desktop app (it's also available on Windows) or ChatGPT on desktop web. Follow the onboarding prompts. Or go straight to the official page: chatgpt.com/dots.

You can't create a dot on your phone.

Step 2: Give it a name and a look

You can name your dot during setup. Its default handle is @yourname-dot, and once you name it the handle becomes @yourname-agentname. You can pick a character or a pet for it.

To change the name or avatar later, select the name or avatar to open the profile, then select the pencil icon.

Step 3: Connect your apps

Connected apps give your dot information it can use for your tasks. Check each app's permissions before you connect it. Disconnecting an app doesn't delete what your dot already took from it. To remove that, you have to reset your dot.

You can also connect your personal email. At launch, your dot can't have its own email address.

Step 4: Connect Slack or texting (optional)

Set up messaging channels from the desktop app. Slack is available. Texting is a limited beta for Pro users in the US only, and it may not be open to every Pro user.

If you get texts you don't want, reply STOP.

Step 5: Give it your first task

Describe what you want in plain words, like "review my calendar each morning and tell me what's coming up." You can attach files with the + button. Then check its progress in the profile under In progress, Scheduled and Completed.

Step 6: Set your limits

Your dot follows built-in rules about when to act and when to ask. In Custom rules you can choose whether it takes an action without asking, asks first, or hands it back to you. Sensitive tasks such as changing a password always stay with you.

Dots can make mistakes, so check important work before you rely on it.

FAQ

Can I create a dot on my phone?

No. OpenAI says you can't create a dot on mobile and that dots aren't supported on mobile web. Create it on desktop, then message it from the ChatGPT mobile app.

Does my dot need access to my computer?

No. Your dot has its own cloud computer. Access to your own computer is optional and starts turned off. You can turn it on or revoke it in the ChatGPT desktop app.

Can my dot have its own email address?

Not at launch. You can connect your personal email so your dot can use it for your tasks, but OpenAI says you can't give it a standalone address yet.

How do I delete or reset my dot?

Open your dot's profile, select the ••• menu, then select Reset. This deletes its conversations, saved memories and scheduled tasks, so read the notice before you confirm.
